Boxing it up!

Almost completed the boxing up. Not quite there yet, but making progress none the less. Was a bit crap weather wise so I didnt do anything on the stand yesterday, but we did pick up the tiles that will form the benchtop.

We got a 1500x750 slab tile for the benchtop and some 600x600 for around the oven.

And this is todays progress with the formwork.

Australia Day!

Another hot one outside today. Reached 41c.

Added extra supports and screwed down the slab floor. Added one side piece at 120mm - the depth of the slab.

Formwork day 2

It’s been quite hot outside, so I am just plodding along doing a little bit at a time. Today, the floor for the suspended slab was completed.

I still need to pull it out again and just add some extra supports under the floor. Then I’ll put it back and screw it down.

Next step is to box it all in!

Test stack

Stacked the blocks today, just to get a feel for what it will look like. I need a few extra full end blocks as I used a couple to start the bench supports.

I’ll need to pull this apart to put the starter bars in, but that’s no big deal. Anyway, this is what it will look like.

Base course complete

Today the base course was levelled into mortar

The two blocks to the left of the base will be the supports for the bench top and they too are set into mortar and levelled with the rest.

Blocks delivered

So, yesterday I thought I would order the blocks and rebar. I called Saddingtons at 0730 and they were delivered by 0900!!! Saddingtons FTW.

We will be using adbri versaloc which are dry stackable interlocking blocks. These will be filled with 25mpa concrete with starter bars.

About 1000kg of blocks. They can only drop them on the nature strip so we had to move them by barrow into the yard.

So today I dry stacked a few to get a better picture of the size and how it will look.

That's it for now. The next step is coming next week, to level the first course into mortar. Then, we will start the stacking and core fill.

Project Pizza Oven

Due to SARS-COV-2 ruining our overseas travel plans we decided to put the money towards finishing the backyard.

The plan was to finish the retaining wall, and as I had always wanted a pizza oven, we decided to go ahead and start that at the same time.

This is what it started as...

Here is an image of what we are hoping to achieve. It is pretty much to scale.

The oven is from Sydney Fire bricks.

Yet to be delivered.expecting delivery late Feb.

The first stage was the retaining wall and reinforced slab for the pizza oven.

And this is where we are at today.
